Music has played a central role in Alastair’s life since he began formal music training on piano at age 5. Brass instruments quickly followed and a budding orchestral career as a French Horn player beckoned, before he was lured to the dark side by rock & roll.
He played in rock bands throughout high school and university, and established himself as a versatile singer, bassist, guitarist and blues harp player. Alastair has collaborated with high-profile Brisbane composer Sean O’Boyle and together they have released six CDs of children’s music, including Letters of the Alphabet and World of Numbers on the ABC music label.
He has written theme music for short films and hosted educational concerts with The Queensland Orchestra and the South Australian Symphony Orchestra.
He recently was able to put his brass instrument skills to use when he portrayed a trombone player in the short film Jobs for the Boys that was featured on Qantas airlines in-flight programs.
He wrote and performed the music for his Theatre in Education show Reading Rocks! including the title track which can be downloaded here.
Alastair is a multi-instrumental performer and has played in various musical groups in Australia, Japan and the Middle East.
Alastair is also a keen collector of obscure and truly awful album covers – his collection has been showcased on the popular ABC television show Spicks and Specks.
Alastair is a member of APRA (Australasian Performing Rights Association).
